This is basically the same truck that was featured in Stephen King’s Maximum Overdrive. I think these model trucks are rare now (or at least getting rare) as I have not seen one on the road in a very long time. Has anyone seen one on the road recently? -- Last edit: 2007-06-24 00:35:28 |

I agree.. Once in a while you see a few for sale on truckpaper.com or ebaymotors.com, it's a damn shame you don't see any of um' anymore.. truly one of my favorite trucks.. |

Uh, no it's not a 4900, it's the same as Maximum Overdrive, so it'd be a 4800 and this truck was a left over model from the previous year during filming in 1977, so that would make this truck a 1976 White Western Star 4800 |

Yeah, that's right I have the whole info on these's trucks used as the "Outlaw" I currently trying to find truck one, so I'll give the info, so maybe someone can help me, the reasoning why the truck was a White Western Star, cause they offered to donate one when they saw the add for universal studio's, there was only 2 trucks used for the movie, the main truck and the stunt truck Truck #1 was a 1976 White Western Star 4800, which is picture above, it was the last left over truck from the year of 1976 and White Motor Company decided to customized it and donate it to the movie when filming started in 1977,seeing it was the last left over 1976 truck,It was meant to survive and to be auctioned off after the movie was done filming, the truck featured a VT-903 350HP Cummins with a Fuller RTO 13 Speed gearbox, after filming the truck returned to universal studio's sat there for a year and when the movie was released the truck was sold in an auction, today the current location on this truck is unknown, although I am pretty sure it is still out there today, from factory the truck was fitted with a long frame, added with the extra long and tall straight stacks,a Mercuary Sleeper was also shipped to the facotry where it was fitted on to the truck, and then painted with the red stripes were painted along the sides of the cab, after that that truck was sent to universal studio's and it was there where it had further modification than filming started Truck #2 was a 1971 Western Star 4764 and heavy modified for filming, before it's movie career it was a working truck, so it was in rougher condition, when filming this truck was only used for stunts and when they switched to this truck it was only at the last minute the only other scene it was used for was for the ending scene when he stops at the truck stop and lets another driver take it over for a while, this truck has been scrapped since the late 80's I think it was in 1988, the truck featured a VT-903 325HP Cummins with a Fuller RTO 13 Speed gearbox |

Every thing is right, but the years Truck #1 was a 1975 White Western Star 4800,cause it was show truck in 1975 and 1976, then did the filming of Steel Cowboy in 1977 and Truck #2 was a 1973 the truck pictured up above is a 1975 White Western Star 4800 |

I thought the trucks had the 12v Series Detroit Diesels cause' they(Cummins) sound like them. |

So that automatically means that the "Happy Toyz" truck used in the movie with the Green Goblin face was a Western Star. I had to say that because on that page some others are were still calling it a Kenworth(which is not). |

I saw a few guys talking that its a rare model. You could say that, I have never seen any at truck shows but, I just recently got one. I saw on the Maximum Overdrive picture of a White Western star they say its a Kenworth, its not. Its a White Western star. It has the right style cab and hhod. I have one. I know a White Wwestern Star when I see one. |
