If the light bars were just a LITTLE different, this would be an excellent NYPD patrol car mockup. |

For a made-for-movie police-car-mockup it looks really good. We have masses of much worse wannabe-cop-vehicles here. |

Those licence plates look strange too, i don't think they used only four numbers ![]() |

It's ok as long as they're aren't more than 9999 vehicles in the NYPD fleet. ![]() |

I think the numbers go from 1000 to 9999 but there is at least 4000+ vehicles in the fleet, I think. Movies and TV shows usually use numbers in the 0XXX and XXXXX for their NYPD cars -- Last edit: 2013-04-18 00:07:07 |

Did the NYPD ever actually use Fairmonts? |
|

For a small period during the late 70's to mid 80's, I think the NYPD used smaller Fox-body Fairmonts and Plymouth Volare's, given their similar overall design. I know for a fact that the Volare's were used, but not so sure about the Fairmonts. They were designed as an economical but practical vehicle to replace the big gas guzzling 'fuselage style' Monaco's and Fury's that were beginning to become outdated by that time. Their reception wasn't exactly bad, but the NYPD opted to replace them with newer 9C1 police package-equipped Caprice's for the 1988 model year. This isn't the smallest vehicle used by the NYPD, either. For a brief period in the 80's, they employed the usage of Chrysler K-cars to use. here's a picture. I think they did. The NYPD has used cars in both big and small numbers (K Car, for example, was used in small but decent numbers, one was even used in a early episode of Law & Order). If the Fairmont was used, it was in VERY small numbers, like the NYPD 1992 and 1993 Ford Crown Victoria originals. |

With this being said, these are VERY good NYPD cruiser replica's. The wheels are blue, the color pattern is correct, the number plates resemble the real thing, and the light bar is the correct Aerodynic type with rotators and twin alternating flashers. There is one in the 5th thumbnail that is wrongly equipped with a Red and Blue Code-3 LP Lightbar, but I suppose the props department was all out of NYPD-spec lights. |

I think that Chrysler M-body were more popular for a period during the late 70's to mid 80's. For example like this /vehicle_588535-Plymouth-Gran-Fury-1982.html Comments? |

In US exist a lot of law enforcement agencies and all of them are independent from each other. In squad car choices too. |

And, as noticed above, it isn't real NYPD car. |
