Opel designed the basic J-car, Holden designed the wagon variant the USA adapted the designs for the North American Divisions.

1982 Pontiac J2000 Safari

1982 was the only year for the J2000

The Sunbird name didnt come out until 1983 and that was only on convertables (they were Pontiac 2000-Sunbirds)
then in 1984 all Pontiac 2000's were called 2000-Sunbird
in 1985 the 2000 was dropped

On the 3rd thumbnail, behind the Van, is it a VW Polo [86C]?

No, it's the Citroën CX Break: /vehicle_37874-Citroen-CX-Break-1977.html

Another American car in France bite the dust :/

This one carrying selective yellow bulb inside the non-sealed beam headlights.

Still, it's more than just a rebadge, so model origin USA would be appropriate.

Does it use the rear-body panels from Holden like the Vauxhall version does? If so the wagon version is to be considered as Australian origin, as it was designed there... (then re-applied on the Vauxhall & Pontiac sedans)

I've learnt something that contradicts Sunbar's statement. The Cavalier Wagon and the J2000 Safari both appeared for the 1982 model year, whereas the Holden Camira Estate was in fact introduced a year after the sedan, in 1983.

Also, there are some notable differences between the designs. For example, the taillights and rear hatch of the Cavalier/J2000 extend further down than that of the Holden, and the rear doors of the Holden adjoin the outline of the wheel well, whereas on the Cavalier/J2000, the rear doors stop just as the wheelarches protrude.

Away from home so can't check sources but fairly sure UK Cavalier Estate was sourced from Holden. No knowledge of what US did for Sunbird or any US Cavalier estate.

I didn't notice that, I though that all had the same rear design ;)
