She's supposed to be poor yet she drives around in a classic sports car. I don't get it. |

I think in those days it was just considered "an old VW".. |

I consider an old p.o.s. still to this day. As far as sporty it had sleek lines {ugly but sleek} but very under powered. |

While everyone has the right to their own opinion and I agree that a stock Karmann Ghia is quite underpowered, it is no more a "P.O.S." then an '85 Monte Carlo is.... (especially the V6 powered ones..) ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-05-25 08:17:15 |

Does anyone know the year on this car? |

It has to be a 1958 or 1959. The chrome VW logo on the front, and the American style bumpers came in 1958, but in 1960 the grilles changed (lower, three bars) and the headlights were placed higher (making the fenders a bit edgier). |

Compare prices on the web of a run-of-the-mill '85 Monte Carlo vs. a "lowlight" Karmann Ghia and then come back here and tell us which one is priced like a P. O. S. |

Most movie-goers don't have a clue as to what this car is - either make, model or value. Producers looking for old cars to use probably have more 'classics' available to them then, say 'regular' cars just 'cause the 'regular' cars aren't SAVED as often by collectors. |

A bent-up Karmann Ghia would have been dirt cheap in the 1980s. It wouldn't be much more expensive today. |

She's 'movie' poor, not reality poor. Her car has a dent in it, so obviously, under movie logic, it must be a horrible, undesirable car. |

Wow! I didn't know the Karmann Ghia was around in 1959. Cool car though. |
