Is that an SHO front bumper? |
◊ 2007-01-15 01:55 |
this was on TV last night and i thought the front bumper looked odd too. |
◊ 2007-01-15 03:27 |
apparently so http://www.theautochannel.com/media/photos/ford/1997/97_ford_taurus_sho-1.jpg |

It looks similar, but its not a genuine SHO rear bumper; as the SHO has a outward flare at the very bottom, above the dual tailpipes. ![]() |

So is the car in the middle picture an actual SHO, or do we think that they just slapped an SHO front bumper on a Taurus LX |

SHO bumper on lX |

IMO, the 3rd generation Taurus is quite ugly, but I really like this one. Lot of great views both inside and out-![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've never seen such low front seats on a newer car like this. Maybe the headrests were removed to make the actors more visible from behind? BTW, should we replace the main pic with this? ![]() |

I prefer the current main pic, where the ugly front of the car is not shown. This pic of Truman + the car + the neighbour and his dalmatian dog is a good choice I think ![]() -- Last edit: 2007-01-21 11:49:28 |

The electronic climate controls become manual knobs in a couple thumbnails making me think some of the interior shots are of a GL (also because of the armrest and column shifter). And look at the flat finished wheels int he main image and the chromed wheels in one of the thumbnails. I'm sure they used several Taurus GL, LX, and SHO for the shots. -- Last edit: 2007-01-23 06:34:31 |

I used to think these were so ugly until I saw em in this movie. Now I want one. |

It's definitely a 1996-1997 model with those amber turn signals. However, I believe that the metal bar on the grill didn't come out until 1998. That kind of threw me off. |

Yes, this is often done in done in films and TV shows (I think it has the effect of making cars look a bit cheap/basic). If you notice, they've stuck on a bit of fabric to cover up the holes. |

amber turn signal is a 1996-1997 one but no explanation on the SHO's front bumper... ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-12-23 17:08:00 |

It was probably a pre-production model, which may explain the presence of amber turn signals. |

1996-1997 SHO bumper had the Ford badge in the grille like the 1998-1999 regular ones had Link to "oldcarbrochures.org" i still believe in a 1996-1997 with a SHO front end 1998 Taurus http://zombdrive.com/images/1998-ford-taurus-2.jpg -- Last edit: 2016-12-23 17:21:52 |

Right, I forgot about that. Body-coloured windshield washer nozzles are pre-1998. Too bad the headrests are missing, they could determine whether it's a 1996 or a 1997. |

Well this isn't a 1996 model because those wheel covers for 1996 were a GL option only. I don't have a 1997 brochure on hand but because this isn't a 1998, it has to be 1997 Link to "oldcarbrochures.org" |

since this one already had a SHO front end, not sure we can really trust the wheels on this one |

An excellent point. |

I can answer the question about the SHO grille. I have been wondering about this for years, because we see amber turn signals on the rear coupled with a SHO grille on what does not appear to be a SHO. Per wikipedia, filming took place from December 1996 to April 1998. That explains it--multiple cars were used throughout filming. The model with the SHO grille has to be a '98, for that was the year that grille became standard across the board, whether or not it was a SHO. Those scenes must have been shot later. Conversely, the car in the main pic is either a '96 or a '97, because the rear turn signals went red in '98. |
