Chile had an odd history of building BMC's finest. In 1964 they started fairly normal Mini Mk1 Coopers and a few MG 1100s for a few years, then stopped when government increased regulations for %age of local content. So they developed Plan B - to resume builds with glass-fibre builds for Minis and now the MG 1300, which started in 1969 and lasted for maybe only a couple of years until the new Allende government closed it down. Manufacturing the fibreglass moulding tools was sub-contracted to Peel (on the Isle of Man). As a 2-door this is 69+ 1300. |

Slight correction - some sources say production lasted until 74,and it was the post-Allende military government that closed it all down. After it all stopped, BL tried to reclaim all the body moulds to ship to Sri Lanka to start assembly there, which if it had happened would have been their first car production. But it did not .... |
