There were US bases in Italy during the 60s, and they probably took their cars home with them after their tour of duty ended. Still happens today in UK, which is why some towns have lots of either US cars or US-spec things. Harrogate in North Yorkshire a good example because of the nearby Menwith Hill radar base, plus Fylingdales on N Yorks Moors. Faslane submarine base on the Clyde used to be another, and there's still several US airbases in the Home Counties (Oxfordshire, Herfordshire) |
