The Ford Zephyr/Zodiac overdrives were, curiously enough, made by Borg Warner and not by Laycock. The latter were fitted to many BMC products and also Volvo, Opel and others. Zephyr = wind from the west, which is understood as from the U.S. Perhaps this is one aspect when the U.S. roots were shining through. The Shoe Box Fords (on which the Mk I models were based) used the Borg Warner overdrive. Perhaps the drivetrain solution were transported over the pond during the development. |
