The run of the car through Central Park is well done ![]() |

Is it me or does it appear that the Caprice is lifted with bigger tires during the chase through Central Park? |

In this case, the car you see isn't the exact same car. There were about four cars used in this sequence. One was the picture car, the other was a gimbal car: It had been gutted of everything except the body, and was hauled around on a trailer, car no. 3 was fitted with off road tires and used for off road driving, and car number four was fitted with solid rubber tires, and heavy duty suspension for the jump scenes. Notice that throughout the chase, the front end damage from the jump over the rock changes over and over again. -- Last edit: 2006-04-23 19:17:31 |

I think it's older than a 1990 as I dont see the door mounted seatbelts. |

I can see why they chose such a car. Those old Caprice Classics are tanks. |

To Cieraguy: In most car chases they remove the standard objects from the car interior, such as: Seatbelts, rearview mirrors, sometimes they remove the gearshift and relocate it in between the seats! They do this for most scenes which involve the actors driving. Like 'To Live and Die in L.A.' for instance, William L. Peterson was actually driving for 90% of the chase. In the chase, notice that the rearview mirrors, seatbelts, (even the chassis at one point!) disappears and reappears during the scene. |

Very cool and amazing scene! |

Well, that's obvious. If you look at the way this car is driven, an ordinary sedan would get wrecked before the end of the scene. You could tell they'd really beefed up the suspension and tyres. |

The one jumping shows the rear antiroll bar of F41/9C1 suspension... |

Yes. I did a little sleuthing, and found that of the four cabs used for this scene, the car used for the heavy driving scenes, (jumps, drifts, fishtails etc.) was an ex NYPD 9C1 police cruiser repainted as a taxi. |

Do you know where I can find the video of the Central Park chase without buying the movie? |

You mean just to watch it? You could maybe find the "Central Park chase" on YouTube ... |

I tried. All that I get is behind the scenes of it and this pissy little extra interview with the director. |

yeah I have a caprice as my personal car and drive a cab right now, but all we have is crown vics, alot less horsepower, when i started the guy told me they wish they still had caprices. there is a company that restores them for fleets that prefer caprice like cab companies and such. I saw their site before but cant find it now. I am super excited to see these new Caprice PPVs in 2011 http://www.caranddriver.com/news/car/09q4/2011_chevrolet_caprice_ppv-car_news |

Best taxi scene ever! |

◊ 2014-03-10 08:37 |
Darn it, when I first saw this movie, I thought that taxi was a 1983 Chevrolet Malibu, but now I see the error of my ways thanks to this awesome website. You can also find this entire chase seen on YouTube if you type it in. |
