There was no US equivalent, their market having little use for so small a vehicle. The Y was designed in the USA, after requests from the Directors of the English subsidiary for a vehicle with which they could have a valid competition with small European cars. The first Y, EV 5689 was registered in Britain on 15 April 1932, full scale production of a slightly changed car commenced in August 1932 and the design was facelifted in October 1933.
