Not sure. It’s a good way to get one motor to push two wipers. |

There was a 1 1/2 litre fastback saloon called a Kestrel, the wipers match, the doors match, but S & G say 1496cc, not 1749cc. There was also a 1937/8 15/6 Kestrel but seemingly not fitted with those top hung wipers, and had a chromed grille. The 14/6 Kestrel finished in 1934. Typical Riley minefield. S & G - “too many models and not enough capital forced the company to sell out to Morris in 1938.” Link to "commons.wikimedia.org" but with 15/6 engine? Sprite means uprated engine, but still same cc. http://rileyrob.co.uk/specs/15-6/. 1729cc could be this engine. http://rileyrob.co.uk/specs/15-6/kestrel6/ So IMO, Riley 15/6 Kestrel but with earlier style coachwork, but not cast in tablets of stone. -- Last edit: 2020-09-17 22:21:46 |

Ep 1.06 Tried to get a good shot of the grille mascot in case it's an identifiable bird to match whichever Riley name. But it looks more like a goose or fat duck, than a Kestrel or Falcon or .... |

This car is a 1937 15/6 Kestrel as determined. It is gorgeously original, and I have had the joy of driving it across the South Downs. This model ran concurrently with the 12/4 ('36-'38 model years). Some confusion may lie in the fact that 1938 models of both varieties had a chromed grille & wipers mounted at the bottom of the windscreen, etc. Earlier models didn't, of which this is one. |
