That tail-light needs more glue .... Do we want BMW-Glas as a new make, or would BMW with Glas 3000 V8 as model be better?? |

@dsl, I was wondering about this as well. The way I understand is that Glas was bought by BMW on September 1966. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glas_V8#BMW-Glas_3000_V8 |

BMW also continued the inherited Glas 1300 GT as simply the BMW 1600 GT (no Glas reference) which is how we enter it. I think if we kept BMW-Glas as make this (so far unique) example would disappear from view and become forgotten. |

Well, I'm not an expert on this, so perhaps the name 'Glas' should be in the extra info. |

Listed on different sites as BMW Glas, Glas BMW, BMW-Glas or BMW/Glas - pretty inconsistent After scrolling through literally hundreds of pages, I found they were listed in brochures simply as Glas, but like the car the brochures were carrying the BMW logo. Then one single price list turned up showing a Glas 3000 among BMW”s so it seems (as it was launched after BMW”s takeover) BMW themselves marketed them as simply Glas 3000 V8 Coupé? In my possession is a book called "Das weiss-blaue Wunder - Geschichte und Typen bis heute BMW" by Hanns-Peter Rosellen, Prisma Verlag 1987. It's a very thorough book with first a detailed story of BMW and then detailed information on every model until then. According to page 212-214 which tells about this particular model, I will summarize: After the take-over BMW staff were particularly pleased with the Glas 2600 V8, developed as prototype as late as 1965, as BMW themselves at that point didn't have any bigger model on offer. Because of that they agreed that it should be further developed. Bönsch from BMW stated that the Coupé would compete with Italian Maseratis and called it “Glaserati”, but it had its problems. Among them that the 2,6 liter engine had great power on top revs but lacked in mid revs. Because of that they did what Andreas Glas had originally planned and enlarged it to 3 liters, not without difficulties, among them that the cam belt tended to wear out rather quickly. The model needed rather a lot of money but they carried on regardless and it was premiered in IAA in September 1967. Because of the effort they had put into it, it was named BMW-Glas. Andreas Glas had hoped it would sell for 18.450 Mark ,but it was eventually listed for 23.600 Mark. Because of that it didn’t sell as quickly as they had hoped and it was withdrawn a year later after only 71 have been sold. Hence it should be named "BMW-Glas 3000 V8" with or without hyphen, with or without "Coupé". -- Last edit: 2019-10-27 22:29:51 |

I don't like the idea of "BMW-Glas" or "BMW Glas" as make because it would be a new one solely for this example, and likely to sink out of sight and be forgotten for the future. As other comments show a variety of brandings were used, there is no single truth and I think we should stick with Glas for ease of use and the most obvious name to find it under. Or if there is a strong call to rename as BMW (with Glas in model name or extra info) I would not argue. |
