Not a "Deutsche Lada" but a belgian one ! This is a Samara Carlota, a facelifted Samara with redesigned bumpers, side cladding and grille. "World premiere" at the Brussels motor show in January 1992. |

Yes, if I remember correctly, Scaldia-Volga still had a "preparation" facility in Antwerp where new Ladas freshly unloaded from the boat were inspected and fitted with extra equipment. Regarding the development, it was a belgian project with assistance from AvtoVAZ, in that the style of the new body parts was done by russian designers on loan to Scaldia-Volga. That said, Carlotas as seen here weren't common, simply because the Samara itself soon had a facelift, with the engine bonnet extending to the grille, meaning the Carlota's quad headlight grille didn't fit anymore... |
