This scene was an reenactment of the death of John Gotti's 12 year old son, Frank Gotti who was hit as he was riding his minibike by a car driven by Gotti's neighbour, John Favara on 147th Street at Howard Beach in Queens on the afternoon of the 18th March 1980.

An investigation into Frank Gotti's death revealed that Favara wasn't responsible for the accident as the boy crossed the street without looking both ways.

After the accident, John Gotti's wife and Frank's mother, Victoria DiGiorgio swung a metal baseball at Favara and missed, after this incident, Favara and his family decided to move.

Before he and family were able to move, Favara was later abducted by a number of men and shoved into a van near his work on the 28th July 1980.

At the time, there were witnesses who saw the abduction and described the men who abducted Favara, but a short time later, the witnesses recanted their statements.

It was believed that either kidnappers or their associates had gotten the names of the witnesses and had threaten to have them killed if they didn't recanted their statements.

It was also suspected that the kidnappers were associates of John Gotti and were sent by Gotti to kill Favara, at the time of Favara's kidnapping, John Gotti was in Florida with Victoria and their remaining kids, Victoria, John Junior, Angel and Peter.

John Favara's car really was a brown 1980 Oldsmobile, although I can't find any reference to the specific model.
