 I remember all the Y2K hype ... Oh, all the computers are going to crash (they do that on a daily basis anyway, at least the ones that run Windows) people
in the stock market will lose their money, communication systems will fail, the world will come to an end, and so on …

… but eight years later, we’re all still here.

 Well, of course lots of things were exagerated, but on the other hands lots of problems were avoided because people fixed things for that :p
It is like saying that it was not useful to go to the doctor and take medication, after having done it, since now you are cured :D
