“Thus conscience doth make cowards of us all.”

Amusing little farce about a Treasury Dept. official who had once almost caused England to lose WWII with his sticking to the rules and keeping the government from overspending, though the movie is not about that. I'm sure it would've made for a more interesting movie, but this is fun all the same with a very nice cast.

Arnold Bennett was born in 1867, in Hanley, a town now within the city of Stoke on Trent.

Yet another son of Staffordshire who achieved world class excellence within his genre. Most of his stories concern the people of the Five Towns. If you want an introduction to his work, can I suggest a short story of his called “The Dog”. An episode in the life of a well off young man who is heading for a fall.
