![]() 1971 made-for-TV romantic-drama about a woman in Southern California who must keep her recent marriage to her Japanese-American husband secret in the wake of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. A very interesting film taking a look at anti-Japanese sentiments in the U.S. during WWII, something very few films have touched on. All the actors, especially those portraying our Japanese-American family, are incredible and they sell the fact that life just got a whole lot harder for them very well. It helps that most of the actors playing the family were either Japanese-American themselves or of Japanese descent. It sadly was not well received, with criticism being directed at the family acting more like recent immigrants than second generation (nisei) Japanese-Americans and the cultural insensitivity of the ending. Despite it's flaws, this film did pave the way for Farewell to Manzanar, another TV film that also touches on Japanese-American hardships during the war and was far better received. I do applaud If Tomorrow Comes for it's effort and for bringing attention to a rarely-considered footnote of WWII, even if the execution was flawed. Watch it here!
