This is Hermann Goering 's Mercedes Benz type Grosser 770 K 7 seater pullman convertible ( W 150) of 1938 , some sources indicate 1943 but this seems quite late.It was the car Goering and his family drove in when they were captured by the US 36 th Texan division in 1945 in Austria. It was an armoured ,bullet-proof version , with armour plate and glass 1 3/4 inch weighing exactly 4 tons 7 cwt 4 gr .In spite of this hughe mass it could exceed 100 mph thanks to its supercharged 7655 cc eight. It was auctioned in London in 1952 and was for a time loaned by Raymond Way Motors Ltd to the Montagu Motor Museum in the sixties.I do not know where it is nowadays.Goering's car had this peculiar almost inversed straight top at the rear.

other sources picture a similar model but with stencilling to the 506th PIR of US 101 Airborne Division stencilled on the front fender, exhibited at Selden Arcade in USA, December 1945..in mint condition, its stated that it is the car Goering was in when captured...the pictured vehicle with the british civillian registration "JLY 819" was exhibited around the UK in 1945 to raise money for the war effort..i have somewhere in my collection, an original rare leaflet/programme of the period showing JLY819 in as found condition without the headlights, and before it was re registered as a civillian vehicle...i believe that currently (2007) one of the military veterans who either brought JLY819 into the uk originally after capture,or had bought it in a postwar auction ..still retains the vehicles toolkit roll..which still bears the vehicles original WH or IA registration number..although it was exhibited as Goerings car, as late as the year 2004 there was some debate as to wether it actually was his....it is thought JLY819 eventually ended up in the USA, where it was sold in 1974 by Kruse International Auctions, for 80,000 US Dollars....and hasnt been seen since..either way,JLY819 is not the same vehicle captured by either the US 36th Div or US 101st Airborne. It is known for certain that JLY819 had at least 3 civillian owners in postwar Britain in the 1950s who used it as a private car..eventually selling it as it was too big to handle..and at least one former owner has retained printed items relating to the vehicle...i remember seeing an article relating to JLY819s postwar use in either "Classic Military Vehicle".."After The Battle".."Military Vehicle Trust Windscreen", magasines printed in the UK..but cannot remember which exactly, about 5 years ago.

Strictly speaking this is not a Pullman Cabriolet Type F, as these have much more substantial hood connecting better to the windup windows making it an enclosed car (well, in theory). This was sold as a Open tourer (Offener Tourenwagen), all sold to the Third reich big wigs and their friends, I guess.

further to my above info..JLY819 was discovered by British Forces in a large enemy vehicle park captured at Lentforden in the Province of Schleswig-Holstein. this park, on which 20,000 to 30,000 enemy vehicles had been collected after the final capitulation of Germany, contained many interesting cars.
A rumor (still not proven to this day) went around that a mercedes belonging to Goering had been found in this park, and this particular vehicle was singled out (probably for propaganda purposes rather than based on actual fact).
The car was removed from the park by the royal Electrical And Mechanical Engineers and taken to an auxilliary workshop for repair..it was soon found that souvenir hunters had been busy and many removeable parts were missing.
It was found that the clutch had also been removed and it "was probible that this car, one of 7 made by Mercedes, had been cannibalised by the Germans"..It was also noted at the time that the car bore a hamburg license plate..and the Goering link was fuelled by the fact that Goerings mother had kept a small tobacconists shop close to the Atlantic Hotel in Hamburg!!!
Apparently, this "link" made it Goerings car, nothing else!
as mentioned, the car was put on a tour of garages in the Uk by the War Office in aid of war charities..wherever it was exhibited the public could purchase a 4 page booklet for sixpence..these are now extremely rare. the one i have was for when the car was exhibited at St Johns Yarmouth Garage,Great Yarmouth.
update..the vehicle is pictured outside the auction where it sold for £1,050.....i have 2 films upoloaded on youtube which show the actual bidding and another showing the first civillian owner.
