The Silvia[S110]generation debuts into rally in 1980-1981,when at "East African Safari Rally"was entered privately a brand-new Silvia Gazelle(name in Japan of Hard Top version)1800 by a Japanese crew, which driver was named Iwashita;the car(white with green and red stripes)will suggests at Nissan Motor's racing division to develop a one to use just into rallyes for replace the Violet/Stanza 160 J GT Saloon 4-doors,that was come at top of its tech development(last versions with 2 lt.,16-valves head),even if it was still a winning car,but obsolete.

The result was the Silvia 240 RS,that will dominates rallying scenes by 1982 to 1986 circa(racing ones were tune-up in UK,where Nissan had created a own European Rally Racing Department, like that of Toyota in Germany);since the name RS(Rally Sport)was declared war at Fords;but Nissan target was that of beat Audis, with same weapons(a turbocharged 2.4 lt. powerplant),but if Silvias wasn't gifted of 4 WD traction like the Ingolstadt's car;some body panels, like engine hood and doors were made in lightweight matters, for no increase total vehicle's dry weight.

The car was raced almost everywhere(from Africa to Europe to Oceania until Asia--into"Beijing Rally"in China)and the Make will realize for the 50 years of Brand(celebrated in 1983)a limited tarmac-replica of it(engine was that of rally version, with turbo as racing article, but de-tuned)available in one kind of painting, white(like the ones raced into WRC,bumpers and wheelarches included),that upon request could be gifted also of cockpit roll-bar(in case of the car entered by private teams). As standard, the roadgoing one wasn't gifted of trip-master on dashboard, unlike works' rally-spec version.
