The 420 was introduced in October 1992 in the same time "Magnum" became the main name of the whole range, despite, as we can see here, "AE" still played the most noticeable role on the side badges. Anyway because of this badges and to avoid confusions, let's have all 1990-96/97 1st generation's trucks as "AE" and "AE Magnum". (PS. The grille in this truck is of course not original and comes from the 1997-2001 model.) |

1993+ models were only promoted with Magnum as main name, despite the badge. When sure of a 1993+ model like here, wouldn't it be better to have the AE part in complement, and keep AE Magnum, which was never used as a whole name (1), only for 1990-97 models which exact model year is unsure? "Magnum" is so well known name, that to me we can have it in model name - I mean now the 1990-92 trucks and only the ones which really were made in this "trim". All 1993-96 ones were promoted as "Magnum", but still were AE. Majors also had only "Major" name on the brochure covers, but still were "R". In fact in period papers, I often meet name "Magnum AE" for trucks from the years 1993-96. Because of that I chose the swapped naming order - to have name in the same format what in the years 1990-92 ("AE Magnum") - to unify them and do not produce too many names for after all the same generation of vehicle (with generally the same look). OK, although there is IMO no perfect solution in this case, this has been changed, now: - all 1990-92 have "Magnum" in the extra info field (all these which were in Magnum trim) - all 1993-96 are Magnum (model name) with AE/AE-xxx in extra info field -- Last edit: 2017-04-14 16:37:41 |
