A normal US-spec Rabbit? Filmed in Leeds-pretending-to-be-Vienna. Were these made in US at all? I'll let the VWologists fill in the details and ingo laugh at the plates, while I laugh at the colour scheme of pastel blue with white interior and tombstone seats..![]() ![]() (note the Yorkshire one-way sign ...) ![]() |

From 1978-1988, the US spec VW Rabbit/Golf were assembled in New Stanton, Pennsylvania at the Westmoreland Assembly Plant and was then transferred to Puebla, Mexico. This Rabbit here is a 1976-78 by the black plastic mirror and round headlights. |

This odd colour-combination is typical for US-spec cars. It's a bromide for German car-makers, that US-Americans usually like coloured dashboards and interior, while Germans hate that. For the common German car-buyer the dashboard, carpets and seatbelts have to be black or anthrazite-grey. That's it. Time-by-time you can find other interior-colours here, but they are rare. About the US-Rabbit: there were worse colour-crimes In 2000 I saw a late US-Rabbit on a Swedish junkyard: a garisher light blue than this here, the complete interior, incl.carpets and sealtbelts in the same eye-paining light blue - and with dark green tinted windows. Yuk! |

Based on what you see, it"s a 1976 only swallowtail with plastic mirror. |
