The today most known product with the name "Contessa" belongs to the typical German things, wanted even far away: Link to "www.google.de" Uuuhh, the "Oktoberfest"-CD, they are offering, is worst! Yuk! Older people and/or people with knowledge about classic technology remember that Contessa, too: Link to "www.google.de" I had one, too. Later replaced by the Contaflex (which I still own today). |

Nice find - and a good picture to show how much Michelotti recycled his styling themes for the Triumph 1300. |

I think this may be a Haifa-assembled version, created by a partnership between Hino Motors and Kaiser-Illin Industries in 1963. The Contessa 900, 1300, and the Briska truck were all assembled in Haifa, Israel from CKD kits. When Toyota bought Hino later on, the agreement was terminated and the final Haifa-made Hino's were released in 1968. The reason for this was Toyota was very aggressive in selling goods to Arab nations and felt worried that their partnership with Israel could hurt potential sales. Eiji Toyoda, being a businessman, decided that potential sales to these nations would create a bigger profit margin than the Kaiser-Illin partnership. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hino_Contessa#Israel In which case, it would be J for model origin, but Israel for 'built in' and 'made for' -- Last edit: 2014-10-08 19:51:48 |
