This used to be my car, the guy I sold it to later sold it to the production company. It has now been scrapped, my guess is that it was too much rust. It was quite rusty when I had it. It was originally imported from USA where it had been used as a family car rather than a work truck so the interior was in quite good shape. It originally had bucket seats but I managed to find a sofa on a scrapyard. I loved this car, it was like travelling in your livingroom sofa. The small V8 (305") made it quite slow, but fairly economical - about 11 l/km if you kept under 100 km/h. But I heard that they weren't as pleased with the car during the shooting of the movie... Sometimes it just wouldn't start. I saw the car parked in the street were I lived, dressed just as in the pictures from the movie. I saw that the new owner had painted with silvercolor were the trim was missing and I thought it was quite cool that a boatyard owned it. It wasn't until I read in the newspaper about the movie that I realized that it now was a moviecar! |

Nice indeed. The 5.0 liter 305 V8 was the baby V8 engine, and featured electronic spark control (ESC) with a 9.2 to 1 compression ratio. It was the next step up, if you didn’t want either of the two base six cylinder engines. Indeed it was not very powerful, only producing up to 160 hp depending on its setup. But it made up for that shortcoming by producing up to 235-240 ft lbs of torque at extremely low rpm. It (like all the other engines for the rounded-line generation) was tuned for work performance, rather than road performance. There was an archaic 5.7 liter 350 diesel V8 engine, but it was weak, too, and said not to be very reliable. It was offered for the 1978-1981 model years only. Its was replaced by a all-new, more advanced 6.2 liter 379 diesel V8 in 1982 with fuel moisture detection, and available block heater among other high profile features. Highly efficient and reliable, it would later undergo and pass all NATO test requirements. -- Last edit: 2011-05-15 19:48:20 |
