Looks more like a Leyland Lion. http://www.classicbuses.co.uk/alex1.html Probably the 1934 Lion LT5, VD3433 as rebodied by Alexander in 1945, and restored by Jasper Pettie. -- Last edit: 2019-05-20 22:47:26 |

"The Leyland Lion is a Wetherspoon pub in Leyland, Lancashire." Or maybe VD 3433?? (which is allegedly a 1942 Leyland Lion TS11 except someone else says actually a 1934 Leyland Lion with 1945 Alexander body." We've identified this vehicle using the details you provided LEYLAND FREIGHTER OTHERS 1934 Registration number: VD 3433 Body type: S/D Bus/Coach Colour: Red Date of first registration: July 1934 ✓ Taxed Tax due: 01 March 2020 Year of manufacture: 1934 Cylinder capacity (cc): 0 cc Fuel type: DIESEL "P721 (VD 3433) is a 1934 Leyland Lion LT5A owned and beautifully restored by Jasper Pettie, and is seen here on 1 June 2001 while being hired by Stagecoach to operate some city services in Perth. Twenty-five Lions of this type dating from 1934-35, from the Alexander, SMT and Lanarkshire fleets, were rebuilt and rebodied by Alexander in 1945 and given a new lease of life to beef up the bus fleet in the immediate post-war years. They were numbered P687-688, P694, and P703-728 (with some numbers missing), with various FG, GS, VD and WG registrations. Several were painted red for Perth city operations, and P721 in the photo re-creates this perfectly as it had, indeed operated in Perth during its Alexander days. By 1960, all had been withdrawn, but two survive, P721 (above), and P705 (WG 3260) - and Jasper Pettie owns them both. Originally with Central SMT, it had subsequently passed from Alexanders to Lawson's of Kirkintilloch, before retiring from passenger service and becoming a showman's vehicle. Jasper and his team acquired it in 1973, restoring it to fine condition in its glorious red Perth livery in time for the 1976 London to Brighton run' It is now available for hire and events through Hillfoots Vintage Bus Hire." from here. |

Since the production of buses by Leyland during WW2 was severely curtailed by the Ministry of War Supply or whatever they were called, 1942 is an unlikely date, but not impossible due to the release of some “unfrozen” chassis, but there were only a very few. The date of 1945 quoted by BLOTW is the rebuild date. However, one look at the radiator shell is enough, it’s a thirties design. Also the reference to 1942 calls the bus a Lion TS11, that’s odd as T stands for Tiger. -- Last edit: 2019-05-20 23:25:26 |

OK - a forum theme I can't be bothered to post on the forum - imaginary pub themes you'd travel a long way to find. I'd go to Finland to have a pint of best grog at the Volkswagen Umpipakettiauto |

Better not, too dangerous ![]() No idea, if in Finland a grog is the classic https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grog - but in Sweden it isn't! The "Swedish Grog", I got offered on a party in Västerås, was selfmade >80%-moonshine with a wee dram orange juice. |
