I think a better main picture should be used for this since it is the main vehicle of the movie, and the car is obscured.

I couldn't decide which one is the best. What would you suggest ?

The 3rd one!
But for me the current picture is also OK.

Car is a 1980-81 by it's "Turbo T/A" hood......but it's also now Chevy powered?

Possibly an NZ-built fibreglass-bodied replica based on a Holden HQ chassis. There were quite a few around. It could also be a fully tube-framed speedway car.

I agree with Buc84, it is 1980/81 version. Probably converted to right hand drive.

Its a fibre glass bodied replica, based on an HQ Holden - very popular in 80's NZ

What's interesting here is that this movie came out on the tails of the successful 'Smokey and the Bandit' series which featured a black Trans-Am. But in 'SR' Cliff Robertson as Judd Pierson makes a remark upon finding an ignition coil in the refrigerator: 'Ah, Chevrolet buffet.' The pic of Leif Garrett over the engine clear indicates it's a Chevy 350 (distributor in back); so it's not a 'real' Pontiac in any case.

The other problem I have with this movie car is that the speedo seems to be in MPH and seems to ascend REALLY fast. At one point Judd says, '...we're just cruising. I'll let you know when we're going fast.' In that scene the speedo most recently read 140. This would be fine if it'd been KPH. But the speedo clearly says 'MPH' on it, which is a bit too much of an exaggeration. On those roads I'd say 140 MPH was WAY too fast.

Does anyone know what happened to this car after filming? Or does anyone have, or know anyone I could contact for, more information / photos of it? It's been an obsession since my childhood.

Am I the only one who doesn't like how this car looks?

I think it's the front end that ruins it for me. Maybe if it looked more like a real Trans Am...

I won't go as far as to say it's worse than the "Corvette Summer" 'Vette, though.

At least I respect this one for jumping through an exploding truck and across a row of parked cars. ;)
