:hello: 1993 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer. You can tell it is an Eddie Bauer edition car because of bumper and grill diferences from the XLT and XLS models. And running boards were only availible on XLT and Eddie Bauer models and the XLT model had a a smaller bumper. And for those of you who do not know what I am talking about, Ford Explorers ( and not just Explorers but F series pickups, Escapes, Expeditions and other trucks and SUVs) have models. XLS is the third class or base model, XLT is the second class model which has all the XLS features and more and before the 1994 introduction of the Limited luxury model, the fancy model was the Eddie Bauer signiture series cars. With interiors designed by or taken from the interior designer, Eddie Bauer, it was the luxury or fancy edition which had XLS and XLT features including many of its own and many options to choose from too. Ford Explorer replaced the aged Ford Bronco and Bronco II.

The scenes with the cars are somewhat long, the car is really well seen and well featured in the movie. I think that its role is important enough to justify 4 stars.

These cars were pretty heavily customized, as well as the "driverless" feature and the plexiglass roofs they also had touch-screen computer monitors inside as an interactive information feature for the Tour.

In the novel the Tour cars were actually written as Toyota Land Cruisers, but, probably due to product placement, the studio decided to use Ford Explorers, which serve the film just as well. Definetely 4 star vehicles, since they feature in the unforgettable T-Rex attack scene. I always liked the paint jobs on these, when I was a kid I loved this film and I painted some of my die-cast toy cars with the same livery as these so they'd look like Jurassic Park cars.

Just a little tid bit. I noticed somebody above mentioned that the Explorers are Eddie Bauer edition models. They are not. If you look closely at the picture showing the rear hatch you can see the badge that says XLT directly below the "Explorer" nameplate. It is also much clearer in the movie.

It does seem to have a Eddie Bauer grille. I believe this is why he was confused. Eddie Bauers came with painted grilles, XLT's came with chrome plated plastic grilles. It is likely they switched these out to allow the grille to be painted with the "Jurassic Camo" pattern.

Same here dude, but I wouldn't marry the car, but I would buy a 1991-1994 ford explorer, with RWD, XLT trim, and I'd customise it to look identicle to this one, it would have every thing that this one has, only the OEM dash, engine, exhaust, gas, brake, and parking brake pedals, and not to mention the plexiglass roof, all because this this ford explorer is the bomb, and I like it, just too much. And this truck is a 1991-1992, heres why, because the 1991-1992 steering wheel is shown on some scenes in the movie, 1993-1994 models had a newer design steering wheel, and this one is an XLT, because it has the XLT bumpers, and clearly says "Explorer XLT" on the back, in some scenes.

I will after college, I dont have the cash to do it yet, nor do I have a job, sorry it took so long to reply, been very busy on you tube a lot, and landrover1 is right, this is a 1992 XLT, and everything on this truck looks original, not custom, i'm thinking that they had them made special by the assembly plant, it looks just like everything is from the assembly plant, and not aftermarket.

I've noticed you guy talk a lot about building a replica of one of these awesome trucks. I've decided to take on this challenge myself. I'm starting out small with a 1:24 scale 1992 Ford Explorer bu Maisto and may one day work up to 1:1. With a little luck and a lot of help from John Spangler, it should look a little like this:

These are 92's or 91's. Movie was done filming before the 93's were released. The interiors are also consistent with 91/92 models.

These Explorers are awesome and ever since I saw this movie when I was little i've always wanted to custom make an exact replica. It shouldn't be that hard, and thankfully Explorers aren't that expensive. I saw one that was good running for 800$!

All that has to be done is the paint job, the roof which should be relatively easy and any body shop/auto fabricator to do and bam. How much fun would that be to drive around!?

This is something I've thought out well in advance. I'd hate to be a kill joy, but it's not as simple as cutting a hole in the roof and slapping a pretty dome in it. First of all, glass domes for this purpose aren't exactly in high demand. You'd have to make your own and fit it into the hole in the roof. But it doesn't end there. You still need to seal the dome or you'll end up driving a motorized swimming pool. Once you get past this obstacle, the rest is a question of finding the right parts. If you're really serious about this, I wish you the best of luck. I'd love to have one, too. ;)

Wait a minute, I thought the current Explorers also have a V8.

U251 had both V6 and V8 engines. The new (2011) U502 is V6 only, for now. A 2.0 EcoBoost I4 engine is on its way, available late this year.

The V6 makes the about the same power as the old V8, and is less thirsty. Some die-hard Explorer fans are upset there will not be a V8 for the new Explorer. But looking back, the first generation Explorers (the ones used here in Jurassic Park) were only offered with a V6. There wasn’t a V8 offered.

Yes it is a 1992 because the it has is the steering wheel that was used from 1987 to 1992, 1993 models had a different steering wheel, also filming began in 1992 and ended in 1993, so they had to use 1992 models as the 1993 models were not out yet.

I hate the new ones, they are ugly and are now crossover's(What a joke!!!), the first and second generations are way better, but this one is the king, it always will be!!!

The Explorers had no powertrain and drivetrain, that's why the shifter's in park when the vehicle were moving. Either electric swap or just rolling cars attached to something.

Both of them are displayed outside a Jurassic Park ride at a theme park in Florida (Universal I think?). One of them is in great condition. The other one that was flipped over and crushed by the T-Rex seems to have had the roof replaced and then been cut in half. The weather has pretty much destroyed the custom dashboard.

It should have been FJ60 Land Cruisers or Land Rover Defender 110s for this role. They are some of the real safari vehicles on this planet not Ford Explorers lol. Although obviously it's product placement.

Sadly, they still got some JP details wrong. But I guess that's what you get for just a "toy"... hopefully Jada toys or GREENLIGHT will make the prefect replica.
