 As stated with the individual cars , most of them appearing in this movie seem to have been modified or disguised to some extent .I do not know the reason for this .May be to depart from connotation with existing makes to render them more neutral or for merchandising/marketing/patenting/trade mark reasons ? (some of the cars seen here have been reproduced as toys).All cars are from the second half of the thirties , fitting in Tracy's original strip cartoon stories.

My idea is it's to help stylize the look and feel of the movie.

 Yes, that's it as far as I recall. They wanted the cars to look more 'generic', just to support the comic strip atmosphere.

 @ dicktracyfan1 I would also recommend checking deleted scenes, if they're available. Those sometimes feature cars that don't show up in the final cut.
