Franchot Tone, Ella Raines, Alan Curtis, Thomas Gomez, Aurora Miranda, Fay Helm, and Elisha Cook, Jr.:![]() Based on a novel by Cornell Woolrich, written by Bernard C. Schoenfeld, directed by Robert Siodmak. Not very good noir, I find (the accusation is very weak and nevertheless puts the man in death row). But Ella Raines shines. She'll be back to Siodmak next year in The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry, a better film (though crushed in the end by the rules of the Production Code). Time-tagged. And one ![]() Reading IMDb reviews reminds me to say that there is at least one very good and rather funny sequence, in the jive club: funny to see Elisha's high hopes on Ella, good to hear very good jazz music. -- Last edit: 2015-12-17 18:58:11 |
