Gödöllő

Gödöllő
50 years ago, in October 1966 five prototypes were completed of the Gödöllő 166 dumper by the Gödöllő Gépgyár (Gödöllő Machine Factory). Previously, in the late 1950s the company manufactured the Csepel K-800 military vehicle. Dumper production was located in Győr at Rába, but that company had another job so production was transferred to Gödöllő.
The new model developed by Járműfejlesztési Intézet (Vehicle Research Institute) based on the Rába 106. It was an all-wheel drive, 10-ton vehicle, powered by a 125-hp Csepel truck diesel engine.
The Gödöllő 116 never made it to serial production: in 1967 when the Autó és Traktoripari Tröszt (Automobile and Tractor Industry Trust, an umbrella organisation) was disbanded, the Gödöllő Gépgyár became a part of the Vörös Csillag Traktorgyár (Red Star Tractor Factory), which had serious financial troubles. In 1970 another reorganisation brought the Gödöllő Machine Factory under the guidance of the Magyar Néphadsereg (Hungarian Military) and became a military factory. The Gödöllő 116 remained a footnote in the history of the Hungarian vehicle industry.
