Ralph are you sure that it was a 'Wolga M21' in DDR, not GAZ... we already have a disscusion about these local names: /vehicle_77700-ZAZ-966-Zaporojetz-1967.html -- Last edit: 2007-03-23 16:11:38 |

I think that the sitution is becoming totally absurd here .You have about 150 Gaz Volgas , 8 Volgas and 17 Wolgas and they are in essence all the same cars and models.So you list 3 different makes for the same cars. .Why not list those according to the Georgano classification , by different make : for the cars produced by GAZ , the Zavod Iniemi Molotova Works in Gorky ,those are simply listed by their make name in english writing as: -Zim (Gaz M-12) -Chaica ( Gaz M-13) -Pobieda ( Gaz M-20) -Volga ( Gaz M-21)... If one has to file same cars under different alphabets be they roman , cyrillic... the situation will become unsustainable. Chevrolet ,Pontiac, Oldsmobile , Buick Cadillac are all General Motors manufactured Products but anyway different makes.Zim , Chaica Pobieda, Volga are all Gaz manufactured Products but also different makes. |

I think the situation of GAZ is a bit different than GM - as everything is made in the same plant and one name belongs only to one model. I agree that all of them should be listed in the same way, especially if badges are cyryllic, but with GAZ as make for me. It's indeed a bit complicated however using names in sort of Volga or Pobieda as independent makes is also not good idea - Volga was a succesor of Pobieda and what with GAZ 69 etc.? On the other hand, maybe I would get rid of the VAZ brand as they manufactured different cars only under one name - Lada (or Zhiguli) same like we don't use MZMA/AZLK for Moskvitches. I hope, my English is understandable. -- Last edit: 2007-08-30 19:04:54 |

From Germany again: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAZ-12_ZIM http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolga_%28Automarke%29 (automarke, but how pics are describe). Netherlands: Link to "www.oldtimernederland.nl" People call them like they want, IXO - do not even know the correct m.y. of Tatra 603 which they make in 1/43, so about Wołga they also can be wrong. On some western markets the badges were probably different and there they had indeed a different make (however even these one from USA and Netherlands had cyryllic GAZ logo). It is not the case of how they were commonly named, but how to list them here on the site. Now some of them are GAZ Volga, some others Wolga or even Wolga GAZ - and all of them are from the same country. /vehicles_make-Wolga.html -- Last edit: 2007-08-30 18:43:59 |

Perfectly; a lot better than my Polish. Technically of course you're right, but I can't help feeling for visitors to the site who aren't as well up in these matters as we are. (Though not to the extent you probably have, I've mixed it with the odd Volga in my time as well.) They might perhaps recognise Volga, maybe even Pobieda, but if they've heard of the Gorki Automobile Factory at all they'll only associate it with GAZ-69s or trucks. |

[quote=pilou -Volga ( Gaz M-21)...[/quote] And GAZ M-24. |

Yes, but it is not so hard to find them on the site even when are listed as GAZ. |

from the official GAZ web-page http://eng.gazgroup.ru/ also is Gaz the company, and Volga is the brand |

I've seen this site before, well it depends on how you are interpreting the word "brand". For me it can be also a type/model, but if not we should rename also these vehicles: 1. Vans: - /vehicles_make-GAZ_model-GAZelle.html - make GAZel - /vehicle_10588-GAZ-Sobol-2217.html - make Sobol They are nearly identical except that the second one is a bit more luxurious. 2. Trucks /vehicles_make-GAZ_model-3307.html - Sadko Etc. there is a lot of others which we haven't on the site yet. Anyway it means that if GAZ will be manufacture even 100 models of cars (and main difference will be engine or trim level) we will list them all with a new separate makes (plus local versions with the differently 'deciphered' Cyrillic alphabet) - probably not good idea, but it is not my business. -- Last edit: 2007-08-31 17:06:08 |
