we do have a few german Hofmann in soviet movies /vehicle_432738-Hofmann-H-33.html /vehicle_432748-Hofmann-H-33.html but I agree it looks UAZ the only problem I see is that on the UAZ the driver sits right above the front axle but here the driver is behind the front axle https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vfTBRYvXuWg/maxresdefault.jpg |

Nice find @Dmitry P! @mike962 they make it backward, so front axle is actually rear axle. Now need to find out who made them. -- Last edit: 2017-12-08 00:48:17 |

On uazbuka mentioned plant StroyDorMash (СтройДорМаш) situated in Kaliningrad so maybe it's the producer that kind of machinery? -- Last edit: 2023-04-16 12:14:54 |

No idea. Online searching proved to be fruitless. It appears StroyDorMash is the producer for that other UAZ-based marking machine in that page. There is a picture and the article about ED-40 from a 1974 Journal of Industrial Technology (pdf file), but there is nothing written about its producer : ![]() |

Found a 1971 photo of this thing made by Soviet official information agency TASS with the following text in Russian: "The unique ED-40 vehicle, developed by the City Improvement Department’s experimental design bureau based on the UAZ-452D truck, was designed to mark traffic control lines on the roadway". In Russian it would be ОКБ УБМ, later ОКБ ЦБМ. The point is, all their projects were realized at Московский экспериментальный механический завод (МЭМЗ) / MEMZ, since 1987 Mosdormash. So, the make is MEMZ Link to "www.net-film.ru" https://foto-avto.narod.ru/mosdormash.htm |

Dear admins, sorry to write so, but you have written utter nonsense in info section about MEMZ. Please re-read my comment and you will understand it is in Moscow and has nothing to do with Ukraine. And it is MEMZ (all capitals) - Moskovskiy Eksperimentalnyy Mekhanicheskiy Zavod. |

... and it is in Moscow, not in Melitopol. It is NOT that factory which made ZAZ engines ![]() |

Well the info was about MeMZ ![]() I thought here it was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MeMZ as not much info was provided about the make itself. It is not easy for me to find some basic info on internet about this kind of makes to fill in the make page. -- Last edit: 2026-08-27 16:28:35 |
