Riviera was initially used for hardtop coupes from 1949 to early 60's. All hardtops (both 2 and 4-door) were considered Rivieras. In 1963 Buick brought out a model called the Riviera. |

In 49 the only hardtop was in the Roadmaster series and the Riviera was Buicks name for their hardtops in the beginning. |
