Not a statement or a definite idea, but it made me think of this one - /vehicle.php?id=821551 - for its combination of UK coachbuilt on US chassis, which creates wide range of difficult possibilities.

I withdraw the Union Jack, then. It's wiser. (No surrepticilious political statement in this assertion.)

The US/UK hybrid idea is no more than a suggestion. But the grille doesn't look to me like one of the usual UK coachbuilt suspects (Bentley, Lagonda, Daimler, Alvis, Jag, big MG etc). And no-one from The Grand Council of 1930s Knowledge (jfs, nzcarnerd, fortengo etc) has jumped in with "Silly boy, it's just a Tickford Humber".

Or even a Railton, which it isn't. I have been waiting for an American thirties expert to come up with an answer for that radiator cowl, but on closer inspection, it appears to be suffering from a "light front end impact" as they say in the salvage trade. My first thought at a glance was Ford V-8, due to the alligator bonnet, but maybe not.

The Humber Snipe/Tickford dhc awaits auction at DVCA, guided at £29,000 to £32,000, they also have a Hillman 20/70 saloon at a suggested £13,000 to £15,000.

I do not claim to be the looked-for "American thirties expert" but would like to suggest - as a result more of luck than judgement - that the chassis might be a 1937 Studebaker. The right-hand of the two lower images shows the top few horizontal bars of the grille extending down the side of the bonnet in the style of 1937 models, as seen here: http://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/S/studebaker%201937%20president_8_sedan.jpg (from http://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/STUDEBAKER%201937.html ). Salmons built drophead bodies on Studebaker chassis - there is a 1936 example on imcdb ( /vehicle_325097-Studebaker-Dictator-1936.html ) although the only 1937 example that I have come across was a 4-door version, as advertised here: Link to "media.digitalpostercollection.com" .

The location, by the way, is Chipping Campden, in Gloucestershire: https://goo.gl/maps/3vGt4PEF6Ek .

But… how did you find, for the location, sps1955?

Otherwise, you various searches leading to 1937 Studebaker something Drophead Coupé by Salmons is, well, convincing for me. (Some might say I'm easily convinceable.)

It's the sort of result I was thinking of as well, and neat because I still had Tickfords in mind which was the post-WW2 name for Salmons. We have a handful of UK Dictators from mid-late 30s, so another piece seems to fall neatly into place. But I'm not a member of The Grand Council of 1930s Knowledge nor a Studebakerist ....

The shapes appear to match to my eyes, plus bifocal lenses.

Well done to sps1955 for spotting the resemblance, I was a bit concerned about the chrome strips along the tops of the bonnet side panels, but there they are in the second thumb.

What does 'Foursome' mean? (I only counted until 'threesome'.)

Everything is possible... in a circle for example. I leave that open for imagination.

I think it means four seats and may have been a traditional coachbuilding term since the days of horse-drawn carriages. And it might imply 4 proper seats, not a vulgar compromised 2+2 as commonly found on lesser cars.

All right; applieable (spelling?) then to a two-door.

Google the words "foursome drophead coupé" and you see mostly cars with two doors and four seats.

Google "foursome" and you're into the world of infantry polo, or golf as it's known.

My iPad has a filter for that sort of thing. It also deletes Ford Crown Victorias.
