The logo in small print here is very similar: Link to "www.conam.info" Would they really go to the trouble to make this when they could just rent/use a vehicle from this era instead? I guess it's possible that it's a different make and they simply placed the Dux logo on the grill. -- Last edit: 2015-06-11 16:47:09 |

If, and I really mean if, this is a Dux, I've found some information in a car makes dictionary. The company began as presicion manufacturer of musical instruments and began in 1904 to build the Oldsmobile "curved dash" on licence. The company was then called "Polyphon Musikwerke AG", Wahren, (near Leipzig) and the car was called Polymobil. From 1909 the company was called "Polyphon-Were AG" and the car changed its name to Dux. The first model with that name was called E12 and had a 6/12 HP engine. In 1916 they changed its name again to "Dux-Automobilwerke AG" and was finally in 1926 taken over by Presto. Some links http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dux_(Automobilhersteller) , as it's a German company the German Wiki site is the best, and there should be translation engines around if there's some difficult in reading. https://www.google.se/#q=dux+automobilwerke . Link to "www.google.se" . I found one picture of a car reasonably similar (at least the grille) to the one above Link to "www.ebay.de" , but that is unfortunately a picture for sale on German eBay and might not be shown forever. That is a Polymobil B10. If the one in question is a Dux, it's an early one and might still have some features left from the Polymobil. -- Last edit: 2015-06-11 19:46:40 |

Well, well, this was slightly more difficult than I first thought. The 1899 Oldsmobile "Curved dash", although first not anticipated, became a success and eventually attracted interest from abroad and oversea. About half a dozen companies, or one should rather call them persons as they usually were more or less hand built and not in any way facory made as one look at car manufactories today, were interested in Europe and two of those were called Dux. I've, above, briefly, tried to describe the (I believe) most successful of them, but there was also another in Moscau, built by Yuri Alexandrovich Meller (or Müller) and Alexandr Basilevsky. According to Link to "books.google.se" they didn't became famous for the car but rather for a series of motorcycles and planes although they also built some cars. I find it rather less likely the car above is Russian as they favored Cyrillic writing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyrillic_script and a latin writing wouldn't have made any sence. I think I believe this is a German Dux rather than a Russian Dux. |
