The machine looks like it is a sort of lightweight dragline excavator but I have never seen anything of this design before. mike962 wrote it may be a custom made based on a crawler tractor, you see in it's design it's only meant to dig very shallow ditches so a farming machine JCB wrote Its a Priestman, it was a cheap easy to make wartime excavator for clearing drainage ditches. Often operated by Land Girls.
