Soper won 5 of the 11 races in 1983 and was awarded the championship (with other Rover drivers winning the other 6), but Frank Sytner (in the BMW) appealed against homologation irregularities again and again so that in June 84 Rover gave up fighting the endless appeals and withdrew, so Rouse (Alfa GTV) was declared 1983 champion 9 months after the last race.
