Smiley's rental car from late ep3 into ep4 as he starts in Hamburg and then drives to Lübeck. Locations not listed in imdb, but confirmed as genuine by cl82.
Ep3 (Hamburg):

cl82 wrote Hamburg indeed as the "famous" Blohm & Voss shipyard can be seen. Nowadays, it's one of the few survivors of Hamburg's once mighty shipbuilding industry, mostly doing repair-work or building either warships or yachts for the filthy rich. And thumb 4 probably shows Alec Guinness strolling near http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landungsbr%C3%BCcken

Ep4 (Lübeck and area) - includes main:

cl82 wrote the old NWK power station in Lübeck-Herrenwyk, closed down and demolished in the 1990s.

It looks like the 2.0S was available since beginning (1978 MY). This is the pre-august '81 version.

This is a 1982 only car for the new bumpers whose edges are extended till the wheels arches, and even the colour "Pistaziengrün" is pure '82. The trim is "Berlina".

The rear bumper is still short. There is also no black finition on the rear wall, which was introduced in the late summer 1981 for the 1982 MY.
1978 car in similar color.

And to some of us Down Under, almost all of the sheetmetal apart from the nose is incredibly like a VB or VC Holden Commodore. Although the Commodore was substantially re-engineered under the skin and had local engines, it was derived from this car.

@gfh: A de-badged VH Commodore appears in Killer Elite, in a scene filmed in Australia but supposed to be in the UK:
