Car on right is 1925 Rolls-Royce 40/50 hp Phantom I Barker tourer chassis no. 122HC, registration no. X-4857. Location is Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). Actress in rear seat is Vivien Leigh, the original female lead. She took ill during filming in Ceylon, left the country, and was replaced in the role by Elizabeth Taylor. But Taylor never went to Ceylon for continuation of filming. All location scenes - like this one - with Leigh seen in 'long' shots were retained and spliced into the final print, while all previously shot close-ups featuring Leigh were re-shot with Taylor at a Hollywood studio. Elizabeth Taylor was eventually credited as the female lead, with no mention of Vivien Leigh. |
