Background vehicle at a pretend checkpoint. Seen briefly on first drive through at 39-05

and again on return at 45-30 (main and below)

There is a second - green - one seen at each checkpoint visit but too blurred/brief to capture.

Thanks. Just to prove there were two of these exotic beasts somewhere in Englandshire in 1980, here's the best I can get for the green one:

Full serial production since 1973, but first ones didn't have this "Tarpan" lettering, this was introduced around 1974. Can be also a bit later 233 S (renamed to S when new body versions were added).
Edit: I see now there is the repeater at the front wing. This was introduced around 1976/77, so it will be the "S".

More informations about the British Tarpans (scroll down) - found, when I was looking for something about the British CX'es Familiale.
The owner of one (Tarpan) is saying, that some were delivered to FSO importer around the 1981. Thanks to this film we can perhaps narrow this to "around 1980", but still some better source would be welcome. The guy also mentions Fiat 1500 engine, so the exact model name will be "F-233 S".

Hi, The link in the last comment is to my Tarpan. I'm fascinated to see these have featured in a British programme, so as mine is a single cab version there must have been at least 3!
The two showing here have the slightly bizarre crew cab in which the rear seats fold like an estate car, then the cab bulkhead slides forward giving a full size load bed while leaving the c post, sides, and roof in place.
Very basic build quality but generally very easy to work on. The engines were either 1500 Fiat or a 2.0 (manufacturer unknown). Front sidelights/indicators are Fiat 125, side repeaters in the front wings were the same as some Lada's. Hope that helps.
Rob.

Hi Hair Bear - welcome.
Interesting is this "2.0" engine, maybe it was the FSO's made S-21 engine (but it had 2120 ccm)? Otherwise they could place some different enigne to these British "show cars"...
The "bizzare cab" :) was in fact the standard one - the most common in Poland, especially in case of the "1st gen." vehicles. This way it was meant to be farmer's both - family and utility vehicle. Your version was called "Pick-up" and was introduced in 1976.

PS. Back to export markets, as I see now, Wikipedia mentions Greece and Iran.

Hi Weasel, I suspect you are right about the 2120 engine! I may be looking to get another so I'm reading a lot of Polish adverts and relying on translating software. Thanks for your help.
