LHD? Then [B01], otherwise [B51], if UK spec.

It is strange trim - it doesn't have side strips, like the cheapest Polish "C" version (I doubt it was exported in such form anyway), but has front spoiler, more typical for the more expensive models. Car is perhaps as original, as its set of side mirrors.

Good thing - badges are visible (=> CE), so it must be private import

From the Red Oktober gathering at Crich tramway museum, Derbyshire UK. more photo albums at Link to "retrorides.proboards.com" , http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=836808&page=2 - may be a useful reference for some of the unusual East bloc cars etc in UK.

You can buy the replica of OBR-FSO spoiler on web auction in PL easy. As my friend did. Looks like both owners have been made same mistake: the spoiler is mounted too low.

Yes - now, when we know it is private import it is more clear it is not original indeed (the plastic bumpers in fact too)
Pity what happend to the brown one (I would keep it in its original condition), but it always can be removed. In case of the ultra poor C-version, we have here, it "spoils" its "sophsticated" look even more however.

Clarkson REALLY hates eastern bloc cars, and probably for good reason!

Base model with rectangular headlights and no rubber side moldings.

It could have round ones too. And in the same time the more luxury models (e.g. "Lux" and "X" trims) could have rectangle lights as well.
Not really a base version, as it was positioned below the "standard" model. It didn't have nearly everything and its equipment list litterally looked this way:
- without...
- without...
- without...
...
However despite it was such a naked nudist, its price was only a bit lower than of the standard model(?!), due to this it was short lived and unpopular (similar like its less cheap predecessors - Polonez Popular and Popular II). This way there are hobbysts, who treat it like an interesting, collectible item.

Early FSO Polonez was strange car. Had rigid and very safe body (welded by robotized line, first one in Polish automotive industry), excellent equipment, nicely finished interior, otherwise terrible outdated suspension (giving tricky road behaviour in some circumstances) and oldfashioned engine (too weak for over 1100 kg weight, thirsty and just medicore durable).

The classic 'triumph of form over substance' victim. :sun:

Quote This is very nasty. It’s a FSO Polonez. Built by communists out of steel so thin you could use it as a net curtain. It is as reliable and as long lasting as a pensioner’s erection.
Amazingly, it was styled by Giugiaro, the man who gave us the original Volkswagen Scirocco, the Lotus Esprit, the BMW M1, and countless other breathtakingly beautiful cars. I can only assume that here he was experimenting with the idea of trying to design a car after consuming four litres of absinthe.

Yet he doesn't hate it as much as the Nissan Sunny.
