No, I meant where it came from. It was made in 1992 but reg'd in 2002. I guessed Irish import.

Not sure about this Jxxx RTA series - it does not show as issued in 1992. I've tried plugging in a few other combinations (J770 is a Ford, J778 a Mitsbishi for instance) and they show similar 1992 ages but various years for first registration. So I guess it is one of those mystery series used for re-registrations. Reasons why new registrations are needed may include imports (and I follow your logic about RHD possibly being RoI, but all sorts of others as well - Isle of Man, Channel Isles etc), but may have been ex-Ministry of Defence re-registered after sell off, or perhaps originally had an interesting plate which somebody bought as a cherished number, or whatever. Endless intriguing possibilities, but none pursuable.

Origin UK for some Transits? or all Germany?

European Transits were built in UK and Germany (and probably later Belgium at Genk?). Original 1966 design was joint project shared between UK and D so shared origin - not sure of later versions.

As I wrote before somewhere here, I was a bit surprised once, when I had an old Fahrzeugbrief (title) of a 1967 Transit in my hands, where as make was remarked "Ford Britain"

I think the original Transit was more British than it was German, thereafter I think more German than British, but I could be wrong.
