Made in Southampton, Englandshire. |

No, I meant where it came from. It was made in 1992 but reg'd in 2002. I guessed Irish import. |

Not sure about this Jxxx RTA series - it does not show as issued in 1992. I've tried plugging in a few other combinations (J770 is a Ford, J778 a Mitsbishi for instance) and they show similar 1992 ages but various years for first registration. So I guess it is one of those mystery series used for re-registrations. Reasons why new registrations are needed may include imports (and I follow your logic about RHD possibly being RoI, but all sorts of others as well - Isle of Man, Channel Isles etc), but may have been ex-Ministry of Defence re-registered after sell off, or perhaps originally had an interesting plate which somebody bought as a cherished number, or whatever. Endless intriguing possibilities, but none pursuable. |

Origin UK for some Transits? or all Germany? |
◊ 2012-12-12 14:58 |
European Transits were built in UK and Germany (and probably later Belgium at Genk?). Original 1966 design was joint project shared between UK and D so shared origin - not sure of later versions. |

As I wrote before somewhere here, I was a bit surprised once, when I had an old Fahrzeugbrief (title) of a 1967 Transit in my hands, where as make was remarked "Ford Britain" ![]() |

I think the original Transit was more British than it was German, thereafter I think more German than British, but I could be wrong. |
