I don't know the name of the actor on the left, but I think, he had the rule of the blind servant in /movie_54395-Edgar-Wallace-Die-Toten-Augen-von-London.html

It is Ady Berber,
I remeber him as heavyweight Im Stahlnetz des Dr. Mabuse
Inspektor in Der Mörder mit dem Seidenschal

Why is this down as a VW-based replica? Looks front-engined and I doubt if they made MG TD replicas in 1963. I reckon it's genuine MG.

there was an engine on the workbench straight 4 cyl.

but when it drove out of the garage the sound to my surprise was that of a VW?!
so did some research found VW replica, and guessed the engine is just a requisite,
to show Ady Berbers abilities.

but the car pictured seemingly hasn´t got a VW chassis, so you are right!

Definitely no replica, the first one came in the early 70ies. And up to the late 70ies not any MG was seen as a collectible-car. They were all cheap clunkers, usually wrecked.

Have switched to genuine TD, but can anyone confirm it is TD and not TC or TF just to be sure??

For sure not a replica. But I'm not convinced this is an MG. Windscreen, headlight bar, doors, nothing really matches with MG...

Doesn't look Morgan-ish either. Any chance of something weird like HRG? Or even something non-UK, which might even have had a front-mounted VW engine????

it was the speedster like windscreen, missing canvas and box shaped trunk make me wonder
if it has a rear mounted engine, and only resembling the outlines of MG
so as noone is shouting hurrah, this is an MG engine necessarily taken out of this body, and with VW sound in mind,
have to search on,...

the british roadster allways have squared window like HRG, Singer ,..
found sequence with VW sound + canvas closed

I wouldn't be too focussed on a VW-engine. I means nothing, that you have heard its sound in the movie, as the soundtrack can be added later.
As usual, when in a movie a car flips over or goes over a cliff. In an interview one movie-soundmaster has said, that they always deposit a new sound for that, because in reality it sounds like nothing, just a jaded "ploff-ploff".

Of one thing I'm certain: this is no MG T-series. It's too narrow for a TD and too wide for an earlier model, and as andrepa says the fixtures and fittings are wrong. Apart from the back it looks rather like a 1933 Fiat 508 Balilla Sport; the screen and wheels match.

despite the trunk + headlight mounting, this comes closest right now.

The fact that it is left hand drive means that it cannot be any MG Midget built before 1950, and it is too small to be a TD or TF.

"The 1945-1949 MG TC was the first MG model to cross the pond and come to America. Until the late Forties, American sports car enthusiasts knew little of the MG, in good part because the firm had completely ignored the North American market before World War II. Production of Midgets, in any case, was tiny -- about 1000 units a year was normal -- and the few cars that went for export were most often sent to Britain's loyal "Empire" territories. The very first Midget to receive left-hand-steering wasn't sold until 1950."
