An intercooler cools down the air, after the turbo has warmed it up by comprimating the air, thus having more molecules pr unit of air and a more powerful cumbustion. So the answer to your question is yes. The evolution was more or less adding turbo for more power, and adding an intercooler as well for even more power, the latter beeing todays standard. |

@tore-40: That leads me into my another question. Were the F7 series sold with more than one engine configuration? ![]() |

@rjluna: TD70a,b,c I believe, (Turbo Diesel 7 liters, a as the first type and c the last) ranging from 170 to 245 HP. Check for the number after the F7 such as F7-240 Edit: The load capacity in metric tons may also be listed, later also a badge would tell you the size. F613, F720 and so on. Or in combination, FL615-220. -- Last edit: 2012-06-27 21:54:55 |

@rjluna: The `Turbo6`s are turbo-only (TD70a,b,d). The `Intercooler`s are turbo and intercooler(TD70e,f,g). Seems like the intercooler was added MY1984. So there sure were several engines. |
