I thought the purpose of the black bonnet was to deflect the sunlight therefore most were matt black, this one looks like it has a nice gloss shine to it. |

@cortina.chris - I agree with the logic, but I think it was more about showroom appeal .... The inspiration was probably East African Safari liveries. A bit of useless trivia you might enjoy - Vanguards excellent Mk2 GT from 1967 EAS VA04113 has a fairly glossy bonnet after Corgi rejected a first batch with a matt black  . |

Also maybe a practical point - mischievous oiks and urchins could use blackboard chalk to write/draw rude things more easily on a matt black bonnet. |
