These look more like Y1 Sonatas to me. Heavy trim and different taillights. |

I know they're the same, right? Stellar is the Korean name. Link to "postfiles4.naver.net" Link to "file1.bobaedream.co.kr" Link to "blog.naver.com" Link to "img.blog.yahoo.co.kr" -- Last edit: 2011-09-19 21:30:48 |

Hmm, first time I've seen a Stellar with these taillights. The Stellar is not the same car as the Sonata. The Sonata was the top-of-the-line version of the Stellar, and it was sold in Korea alongside the Stellar. I don't think the first gen Sonatas were even exported. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOvVPZ4SWFk |

These bumpers and taillights were available on the ROK-specs, too. |

These are actually Stellar 2 (or 2.0) - Differences between Stellar and Stellar 2 are that the front suspension is now MacPherson (Stellar 2) instead of double wishbone (a shame really), and the rear axle has a 5 piece multilink (2) vs 4 piece on the outgoing Stellar. The interior is slightly different, with most changes at the helm (new backlit gauges and steering wheel designs, as well as relocated power window controls) as well as for some markets (Canada notably - My 1987 CXL has these changes, vs my buddy's 1986) have the 2.0 Mitsubishi 4G63 double barrel, and for 1988, a rare form of Panasonic Throttle body injection. The headlamps are different too, as are the taillamps - These tails are from the Stellar2, although in Korea, Stellar 2's have the older Mitsubishi 4G32 and 4G33 (1.6 and 1.4L) "Saturn" engines. Also for 1987 up, a new Borg-Warner 03-55L transmission was fitted, with Overdrive - A really durable and stout box, I might add. I'm not entirely sure when they phased them out, but in Canada, the 1989 Sonata replaces the Stellar. Interesting tidbit - of all the Stellar 2's I have owned, all of their instrument cluster backings have stamped "Sonata 2 LHD" |
