Good example to show this is a Super (per smaller taillamp housings) but one that has the fender top ornament option.
Such ornaments were standard on Commodores.

I am hoping that is a clean example for 42 year old car.

Don't know why none of us noticed the inverted grille "V" before.
This is a 1950 Pacemaker.

Changing.

You need to change it back to 1949.
Christie's auctioned this car (the "star" car driven by Nicholson in "The Two Jakes") and they listed it as a 1949 Hudson Commodore 8 Convertible Brougham. I guess they should know.

Part of what they posted about the car is as follows:
"This 1949 Hudson Commodore 8 convertible is one of the last of 596 cars built in total and of only a handful known to be remaining. The car was purchased in New York in 1985 by W.D. Albright of Vintage Coach in Fontana, California, who restored the vehicle to a highly original specification. The car still features many authentic Hudson accessories such as the radio, the heater, turn signals, front and rear bumper guards, fog lights, script exhaust extensions, an extra ashtray, overdrive transmission and wide whitewall tires as well as the very advanced period features like fully electric windows and soft top. This Commodore was used as a star car for the Movie "The Two Jakes", starring Jack Nicholson and then went on to form part of a well-known high quality car collection in Germany. Just recently sent to the US from Europe, a new California title will accompany the car."

You can read more and view some photos of the car at:

This is odd. Are we sure this is the same car? The linked vehicle has several significant differences from the movie car.
1) No inverted grille "V".
2) Different hood ornament.
3) Commodore taillamps rather than the Pacemaker/Super style.
4) Trunklid 1949 style details rather than the 1950 items seen on the movie car.
5) Significant rear bumper differences.

I am leaving the listing as is since the movie car has all front and rear details fully correct for a 1950 Pacemaker.
The linked car appears to be a 1949 Commodore.
Is there a serial number available?
