What makes it a 1977 specifically? |

1977-typical is the plastic mirror and black doorhandles with a chromated inlay. The first years it was a chrome handle with a black plastic inlay - even two different versions for 1974/75 and 1976. The mechanism was different. The VW-freaks are crazy for the 1976-version, as it's the same the mechanic as the later plastic-bumper Golf I/Rabbits have it, too, also the Jetta I and the Golf Cabriolet. The are using them for making the "oldschool"-conversion. Same goes for chrome mirrors and chrome bumpers. So for 1976-door handles you can make a lot of money at eBay. The 1974/75 is less popular, as you have to change the lock, too. A time ago my Swedish friend delivered dozens of these chrome-parts to me for my eBay-dealings. We shared the money afterwards. Swedish junkyards were the best in Europe, with the most old cars. Such 1970ies goodies were impossible to find on Middle European junkyards back then. |
