Since this was filmed in Morocco, could it be an attempt to give the car American-style sidemarker lights?

American 240s don't have that side marker. I think the light next to the headlight is all clear on the American models too.

The small side markers are also applied too Volvo's sold in the Netherlands...! I remembering seeing these on old 244's....

Does anyone else think those look like E-Code headlights rather than the crummy DOT lights they used on the American cars?

If it was the time the "sealed beam" DOT headlights were common, this Volvo would have had double round headlights if it was an US version. As it has big square headlights, this is a good indicator for the European version.

There is a sizeable Moroccan community in the Netherlands, so perhaps this Volvo belonged to a Moroccan who lived there and then returned home. Or perhaps there's a trade in secondhand cars from the Netherlands going to Morocco.

I am certain this car is an EU spec 244 and not a US model. Refer to this link which shows typical USA version corner/indicator lenses which where either all amber or all clear depending on model year vs. the amber/white of models sold in the rest of the world : http://www.vlvworld.com/indexframe.html?200/toc.htm

Sure about Italian version? Weren't also white front turn signals required in the 70ies? These side turn-signals were required in Denmark and Norway, too (an Japan, but it's obviously no Japanese version).
