Looks like a 1936 Hudson Eight Coupe.

I think you are right... what made me rule out Terraplane was the pattern of hood vent mouldings. Looking at it closer, I must admit that it's wrong also for Six/Eight, but fits perfectly on a '37 Terraplane.

Terraplane was still a make by itself? Or was it 'just' a model name of Hudson?

The Terraplne may be fully considered as a make on its own as from 1934 . This Hudson product actually started life as the Essex Terraplane in july 1932 .However the Essex name was soon slowly phased out during 1932 and 1933 and in 1934 the cars were simply known as Terraplanes. So 1932 and 1933 models are generally listed as Essex Terraplanes and 1934 to 1937 models as Terraplanes. To complicate things ,the Terraplane was again no longer classed as a separate make in 1938 , in which year it became the Hudson Terraplane .In 1939 the Terraplane name disappeared and cars were simply designed as Hudsons.
