The 1974 and 1975 Imperials were not scheduled to be produced. Initially, planning for the 1974 Chrysler C bodies did not include the Imperial, a casualty of faltering sales. However, a designer drew up some designs of the waterfall grill with the hidden headlights (not featured on the New Yorker) and advised head designer Elwood Engel that it would be worthy of an Imperial. Engel and chairman John Ricardo agreed. The car rode on the Chrysler 124 inch wheelbase and featured four-wheel disc brakes; the only American car (other than Corvette) to do so. |
